Southern Theatre Group

OVERVIEW

  • Description

In 1959 the Southern Theatre Group was formed in Cork by James N. Healy, Dan Donovan and Frank Sanquest. The company's productions included many new works, most notably the world premieres and/or the professional premieres of many of John B. Keane's plays. Following the departure of Frank Sanquest in 1969, Michael Twomey was invited to join with Healy and Donovan to form a new company, The Theatre of South. The Theatre of South continued to produce work along the same lines of the Southern Theatre Company until the company's demise in the mid 1980's.
