Arambe Productions

OVERVIEW

  • Description

Arambe Productions, Ireland’s first African theatre company, was founded by Bisi Adigun in 2003 with the principal aim of fostering a better understanding of African cultural values through an innovative approach to the interpretation and performance of classic and contemporary African plays. Also, Arambe aims to foster new work by reinterpreting Irish classics. The company hopes to introduce Irish people to the dynamism of African theatre and to encourage the development of an artistic community among Africans in Ireland.

In 2006, Arambe commissioned its Artistic Director, Bisi Adigun and Irish writer, Roddy Doyle to co-write the new version of The Playboy of the Western World. The new version premiered at the Abbey in October 2007.
