Compántas Chorcaí

OVERVIEW

  • Description

Compántas Chorcaí was founded in 1953. Dan Donovan and Seán Ó Tuama were the main founders. Their first production was the translation 'An Sgáth agus an Adhmhaoin' (Shadow and Substance by Paul Vincent Carroll) but it was the original plays by Seán Ó Tuama which gained them a reputation. They were almost an Irish wing of the Everyman Theatre and the Everyman Playhouse in latter years. From the 1970s they have been operating almost exclusively as a member of the Comhlachas Náisiúnta Drámaíochta which supports the amaetur sector.
