Brian Campbell

1960 - 2005

Born in Coleraine, Brian Campbell moved with his family to Newry in 1968. He graduated from Liverpool University in 1981. Arrested in 1986, he was sentenced to fifteen years for possession of explosives. In Long Kesh he studied for a second degree in Social Sciences and was the founding editor of 'An Glór Gafa' (the Captive Voice), a magazine of prisoners' writings. He is a former editor of 'An Phoblacht' and news editor of 'Daily Ireland'. A walker, former footballer and hurler, he collapsed and died after a taking a run on October 8th 2005.
