T.C. MURRAY

1873 - 1959

Thomas Cornelius Murray, born in Macroom, Co. Cork in 1873, was a playwright and schoolteacher. His playwriting career began in 1909 with the production of his first play, 'Wheel of Fortune' at the Cork Little Theatre (he revised this play as'Sovereign Love' in 1913). His play 'Birthright', produced at the Abbey Theatre in 1910, established him as a writer of stark and tragic realism. Many of plays are set in his native County Cork.
