Gerard Humphreys

c. 1950 -

Born in Dublin, Gearóid Mac Unfraidh or Gerard Humphreys first came into contact with theatre through school plays under Tomás Mac Anna. He pursued his interest in drama with An Taibhdhearc in Galway and the Little Theatre in Athlone. His first book 'Clocha Ceangailte', about his experiences serving the UN in the Lebanon, was published by An Clóchomhar in 1994. In 2007, his play Not In My Name was performed in English, Irish and Arabic at the Ireland Institute on Pearse Street in response to the war in Iraq. Gerard has won awards for his Irish language plays. He writes in English and in Irish. Gerard Humphreys also writes under the name Gearóid Mac Unfraidh
