The Man who stole from Adolf Hitler

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Tony Browne

  • Synopsis

The rapid and forceful annexation of Austria forms the backdrop of The Man who stole from Adolf Hitler. The play concerns the Gestapo's brutal and unrelenting interrogation of Reinhold Hanisch, one of Hitler's business partners and protectors, following the sale of pictures painted by the Fuehrer. A con-man to the last, Hanisch, in his feeble attempts to explain himself, is increasingly caught in a trap of his own making. Under the dominating shadow of Hitler, Hanish must simply, and finally, disappear.
