Set in Dublin in the 1950's.
Originally commissioned by Radio Eireann and broadcast in 1952, The Pike Theatre Club staged Moving Out and A Garden Party as a short two-act piece entitled 'The New House'. It was presented as a companion piece to 'The Big House'.
The Hannigan's have moved out to the suburbs from the city centre, and Mrs. Hannigan wants to make use of the gardens front and rear. Having bought a load of manure, she instructs the men of the house to dig it in to the soil...but the menfolk will try any way possible to avoid lifting a finger....
