Agamemnon

A New Version by Andy Hinds

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Andy Hinds

  • Adapted / Translated From

    Aeschylus

  • Author Notes

Based on the classic Greek tragedy by Aeschylus

  • Setting

    Argos, Ancient Greece.

  • Synopsis

In CSI's 2011 production of 'Iphigenia in Aulis' (see separate Playography entry) Clytemnestra swore vengeance on her husband Agamemnon for sacrificing their daughter, Iphigenia - all so that his ships could sail to conquer Troy.

Agamemnon now returns in triumph and Clytemnestra, appearing to have forgotten her vow of vengeance, greets him with shows of overwhelming joy. But her true intent is yet to be revealed; when she invites her husband to enter the palace on a river of bloodred cloth a great foreboding fills the hearts of the city elders. The curse on the royal house of Argos is not yet broken...

The first part of Aeschylus' Oresteia Trilogy, first performed in the 5th century B.C.
