  • Programming Policy

Bewley's Café Theatre premiere and platform a number of new plays every year. We are a leading presenter of new dramatic writing in Irish Theatre. We aim to be a vital cog in the creation and revival of new plays in Ireland and to be a stepping stone to larger stages.

    NEW WORK

Bewley's Café Theatre is a curated venue, where all lunchtime productions are part of a programme of work selected by the Artistic Director. The plays are always one-acts suitable for our lunchtime slot that we feel will delight, entertain, provoke and astonish our audience. Every year we present a balance of new writing and adaptations from established writers alongside platforming emerging artists and interrogating classic work. We are constantly looking to engage with theatre makers who are exploring what is theatrically possible in an hour or less.

    NEW WRITERS

We want to encourage new writers to approach established directors and actors to read their work and then to apply to Bewley's Café Theatre as a team by emailing bewleyscafetheatre@gmail.com

We are looking to harness the talent and depth of Ireland's freelance theatre community. You can look at our website's archive of past productions (http://www.bewleyscafetheatre.com/lunchtimes-past.php) to see what directors and actors have worked with us before. Information is also available at www.irishplayography.com where all new Irish plays are listed along with their original casts and creative teams.
