    Octave is in love with Hyacinthe,even though he is engaged to another. Leandre is in love with Zerbinette, but neither young lady is a suitable bride in the eyes of the young noblemen's fathers. Luckily, Leandre's wily servant Scapin saves the day, by concocting scheme within scheme that trick the men's snobbish fathers and ultimately supplies the bona fides to their lady loves.
