• Synopsis

  The play is set in an unnamed Irish prison during the War of Independence. A group of Republican prisoners decide to call a hunger strike until they are released. The prison authorities refuse to give in to them, however, and the strikers grow sicker and weaker with every passing day. Their commander starts to question his conscience: are they following the right course or should he call the whole strike off?
