Máire Ní Shíothcháin
T.C. Murray
A play about rural Ireland of late marriage and large scale emigration, dominated by the new class of small landowners who had only got control of their land since 1903 when the Wyndham Act was passed. Bat Morrissey has bought his farm from money he earned in the States and has worked hard to drain the bog land and to try to make it viable. But his son Hugh is more interested in socialising and playing hurling. The generational conflict escalates to the point at which Hugh is beaten to death.
