Celia de Fréine
In this play we meet Louise Gavan Duffy who founded Scoil Bhríde in 1917, the first all-Irish school in the country since the demise of the hedge schools. Louise was born in France in 1884 and came to live in Ireland when she was twenty three years of age. She taught in St Ita’s, the girls’ school founded by Patrick Pearse, and spent Easter Week, 1916 in the kitchen of the GPO.
