  • Synopsis

Famous 18th century poem by Brian Merriman about the battle of the sexes. The poem is an Aisling. The poet has a dream in which he is brought by a horrendous amazon An Másach Bolgach to the court of Aoibheall the Queen of the Fairies. The Seanduine Suarach puts the case for misogyny and the abolition of marriage but he meets his match in Spéirbhean Úna who lets him have it in a big way. The clergy are attacked too and the young priest is a willing victim who sings lewd lines in Gregorian chant. The poet is found guilty and is whipped for reaching the age of 30 without taking a bride. He fortunately wakes up before he is dealt with by An Másach Bolgach.
