Denis Johnston

1901 - 1984

Born in Dublin, Denis Johnston was educated at St. Andrew's College, Dublin; Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh; Christ's College, Cambridge and Harvard University. A broadcaster, playwright and academic, he was also a barrister and called to both the Irish and English bars. In addition to his plays he wrote four non-fiction books: 'Nine Rivers from Jordan' (a war memoir), 'The Brazen Horn' (on cosmology), In Search of Swift (an investigation into the life of Jonathan Swift) and 'John Millington Synge' (biography).
