JAMES BUTLER

Originally from Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny, James Butler is a graduate of English and Philosophy at UCD, and trained as a primary school teacher in 1981. Currently he is a Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator at St Anne’s National School, Fettercairn, Tallaght. He became interested in writing children’s drama through his work as a primary teacher dramatising poems and stories in the classroom, and participated in Barnstorm’s New Plays for Young Audiences writing project in 2004. His play Stuck in the Mud was first presented in a public rehearsed reading as part of the project’s showcase event at the Kilkenny Arts Festival in 2004. The play was then produced in full by Barnstorm Theatre Company in February 2005 and toured nationally.
