JIMMY MCALEAVEY

Jimmy McAleavey was born in West Belfast and educated at Oxford. He has written for stage, radio and screen. His stage play The Sign of the Whale (Tinderbox, 2010) won the Stewart Parker Major Bursary and was nominated for the Meyer-Whitworth. Other stage plays include: Inventors (Kabosh, 2013), The Queen’s Shilling (Goldin+Senneby 2013), Titans (Kabosh, 2012), Monsters, Dinosaurs (Abbey Theatre, 2011), Get Gaddafi (Tinderbox, 2011), The Joy (and Roy) of Irish (Kabosh, 2010), The Virgin Father (Tinderbox, 2009) and Weirdwolf (Tinderbox, 2008). He has written drama for BBC Radio 3 and 4 and RTÉ Radio. He has written and directed short films and has feature film credits. He is a lecturer in the Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen's University Belfast, where he teaches scriptwriting for stage, radio and screen.
