Mícheál Mac Cárthaigh was born in Ennistimon, Co. Clare and he spent periods in Europe, Africa and in Saudi Arabia. Saol i mBás Pháidí Joe was written i Ryjadh. It won an Oireachtas prize in 1984 and was produced in The Peacock. He has written other plays, particularly for children. He is a teacher in Donegal.
