Sophocles

496 B.C. - 406 B.C.

One of the Greek master dramatists and rival to the elder dramatist, Aeschylus. A specialist in tragedy and Satyric plays. Over 180 plays are ascribed to him, although at least 20 of these seem unlikely to have been written by him. Only 7 survive in complete manuscript form.
