Jean Cocteau
A translation from the original by Jean Cocteau.
A lone jilted woman exposes her soul to the audience, telling of her love for 'the man' who sits throughout hiding behind a newspaper, ignoring her heartfelt pleadings. His power over her is rooted in his indifference. The play is a paradigm of the gulf that often lies between the loving and the loved.
