Aloysius Kinsella is an elderly poet whom two widows are anxious to marry. Joe Hegarty is engaged to Kinsella's niece Nora, and the two plot to have Aloysius marry Mrs. Hegarty as opposed to her rival Mrs. Mulvey. They delight in their scheming, only to finally discover that Aloysius and Mrs. Hegarty have beaten them to it and got married a month previously.
