Philip Van Doren Stern
Based on Van Doren Stern's 1945 short story "The Greatest Gift" which inspired the 1946 film, It's a Wonderful Life.
December. The Summit Inn in Howth.
It's a Wonderful Life formed part of Theatre's Upstairs cycle of new plays based on classic Christmas tales set in modern Dublin, The Yule Tide Tales.
Georgie Travers is on edge at last orders on Christmas Eve. The barman has disappeared to pull down the shutters, leaving Georgie with one other straggler. This oddball, Lawrence, won't let Georgie finish his last pint in peace, working hard to convince his new bar buddy that Georgie's life till now has not been one monster disappointment for all involved. And there's a better possible future for Georgie than his own planned moonlit stroll to the cliff walk...
