Mary Elizabeth Burke-Kennedy
Clara lives on an island in the middle of a wild and unpredictable ocean. One night a passing ship, on its way to a new home, is wrecked by a great storm. All of the crew escape with their lives, all of them it seems except for the Captain's young brother, Frankie. The islanders join in the search for the young boy's body, but then Clara accidentally discovers him alive and hiding in a cave by the cliff. He begs her to promise she won't reveal his whereabouts, telling her they beat him and he doesn't want to go on with them to their new home. Clara reluctantly promises. While the crewmen rebuild their shattered ship Clara learns that his real secret is something all together more simple. As the time for the crew's departure approaches it becomes harder and harder for her to keep to her promise or to know what is the right thing to do.
