The entire action takes place in the living-room of the farm-house at Droumduv.
Mary Keating was jilted years before by Terry Donegan. He has buried his wife and returned from America. He must face her wrath nutured over years. Meanwhile Hugh Kearns, Mary's farm-man is engaged in a passionate romance with Moll Garvey, but Hugh's mother twists his mind to material things and he marries his employer, Mary, to gain ownership of the land he tills. Moll is broken-hearted and determined on revenge.
