Johnny Hanrahan
Reading Turgenev is a tale of small-town frustration and romantic yearning. A young wife, an ineffectual older husband and two shrewish older sisters all live together in one house. This proves to be an explosive combination which drives the wife into a sexually innocent but intensely passionate love affair that lasts a lifetime. The heroine, Mary Louise, is lifted out of the grubby, small-town world she has settled for into a reality magically transformed by an overwhelming, obsessive relationship with her cousin, Robert.
