The play is set in and around Ballinascaul, a medium sized town just south of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The action takes place between Easter and Halloween, 1998.
Hades is a comic exploration of life in the fictitious border town of Ballinascaul during the summer of 1998. A taxi driver discovers that his 15-year-old daughter Judy is sneaking out at night and tries to figure out where she goes; an ex-champion boxer struggles to repay his debts as the moneylenders close in; a boy threatens to reveal who his true father is and cause a scandal - and somewhere far away there is a peace process and borders are dissolving.
