Paris, May to October 1789.
Peggy from Yorkshire and Medbh from Ireland wash and mend for their master's household amidst the blood and horror of the revolution, and watch the action from the relative safety of their scullery. Their chores used to be gruelling but now they are gruesome as the clothes get bloodier. Medbh longs to return to her native Ireland and learns practical information to teach the folks back home.
