Jack P. Cunningham
Set in a wild and boggy district of North Mayo, sometime around 1900.
A drunken poteen brewer murders his drunken elder brother and blames it on an innocent man, also drunk at the time. He very nearly gets away with it too, until in a fit of temper he shoves a hayfork through the side of Thomasheen Sweeney's dog, and Thomasheen, who happened to witness the killing, lets the cat out of the bag.
