The action throughout takes place in Cartney's house.
Cartney and Kevney are two ne'er-do-well pals whose sole occupation for years has been managing to generate an income without ever actually having to do any work for it. They sponge off their friends, write begging letters and on one occasion, even apply to draw an army pension under false pretences. The prospect of having to take on employment however, their own greatest fear, is fast bearing down on them...
