Euripides
An updating of Euripides' classic set in the context of the Iraq war. Dionysus, the Greek God of art and debauchery, ectasy and exuberance is portayed here as a kind of terrorist. A rejection of the strictures of civilisation is a seductive idea, but also a disturbingly destructive one. The frenzied orgiastic violence of the Bacchae is linked here both to suicide bombers and to the invading forces. No one is excused from responsibility for the carnage wrought when civilisations clash.
