Mary Anne's workroom at eleven o'clock on a spring morning.
A broad farce with stock characters, predictable plot, but excellent dialogue. Dan Farn returns to his home village after a long stretch in jail and promptly marries an attractive widow. The neighbours crank the rumour mill with gusto and her bitchy step-daughter makes life difficult for him. But as we know Dan to have been wrongly convicted and an all-round decent skin, the tables will turn in his favour in the end.
