Hedy Lamarr and the Easter Rising

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Michael James Ford

  • Synopsis

John Loder, English gentleman, fought at Gallipoli and the Somme, as well as witnessing at first hand the 1916 Rebellion in Dublin. Loder was the son of General Lowe, the man who accepted Pearse's surrender at the end of the Easter Rising. Subsequently he became a suppoirting actor during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The play begins in 1943 with Loder, beside his Beverly Hills pool, reflecting on his fast disintegrating marriage to the screen goddess Hedy Lamarr. Following a whirlwind romance, the B-list actor and the Austrian femme fatale have found themselves to be utterly incompatible. Loder , who throughout his charmed life has never been given to introspection, starts to realise he has been hijacked by the past and forced to confront an array of long-buried memories.
