M.J. Farrell John Perry
Woodruff, a country house in Ireland; March 1960
Michael and Joan Byrne train race horses at their Irish estate. Their wealthiest owners, the Sheedys, are demanding instant results from the stable star, King’s Ransome, or, alternatively, instant repayment of a substantial loan. As the day for the big race nears, John Sheedy suggests a change of jockey and a shot of dope for King’s Ransome. To complicate matters, Bijou Furze, a maiden aunt who lives with the Byrnes, makes plans to dope the stable’s second runner, The Dazzler. In the event, neither horse is doped, but a thunderstorm does upset the race's odds.
