The Quinlvian farmhouse in Co Clare, 1942
The elder son of a former Irish republican incurs the wrath of the local priest by his efforts to form a peasant co-operative. As a result, the bishop withdraws the younger son from a seminary in Maynooth. The mother, outraged at wrecking of her ambitions for her younger son, tries to oust the elder one from his inheritance.
