Room For Two

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Ger Gallagher

  • Setting

The action of the play takes place in a private psychiatric hospital.

  • Synopsis

Dorothy, a long term patient in a private psychiatric hospital is horrified when she is forced to share her private room with Carla, a young woman who has been moved from the high security wing. Likewise, Carla is not impressed with her new roommate, but is prepared to put up with the situation rather than risk being sent back to the ‘fourth floor’. As the months progress, the women find common ground and an unexpected friendship builds between them. Dorothy sees that behind Carla’s tough facade lies a vulnerable young girl who has stopped believing in herself. A former school teacher, she introduces Carla to the world of literature but it’s Carla who teaches Dorothy the most important lesson – how to laugh again.
