    On a hill in South Africa during the Boer War, George Linton a young Irish soldier lies seriously wounded. Across two hundred yards of no man's land, an elderly Boer farmer awaits an opportunity to finish the job. As the two strike up an unlikely but still deadly relationship, the psychic landscape of conflict is portrayed: hatred, guilt, fear, the desire to avenge what can never be put right and the cruelties of chance and fate.
