The Book of Evidence is the story of an unhinged man's descent into murder. Alone in his prison cell, Freddie Montgomery, a well-spoken man, tells of how he decided to steal a painting from wealthy friends, and was caught by a maid in the attempt. Reacting with rage at the humiliating situation in which fate has landed him, he killed her with a hammer. He was easily caught, and sentenced to life in prison.
