La Corbière

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Anne Hartigan

  • Synopsis

Based on an actual incident arising from the occupation of Jersey by the Germans during World War II, La Corbière is a poetical and imagistic treatment of the fate of a boatload of French whores from Normandy, imported for the entertainment of the troops. On their return journey, their ship struck the coast at La Corbière lighthouse and sank in a matter of minutes. Of the small group only Marie Claire survives. She bears witness by leading us back into the individual lives of those who are true witnesses: the drowned, the submerged, the annihilated.
