Loaves and Fishes

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Charles K. Ayre

  • Synopsis

In a County Down fishing village, local fish dealer Charlie Curran and baker James Sloan are keen rivals for Nelly Doran, the schoolmaster's daughter. Nelly's father decides that the suitor who best applies mathematics to his business will win Nelly's hand, and the two vie to find spectacularly imaginative ways to do so. Mr Doran decides that Sloan's efforts win, but Nelly informs him that ninety-nine per cent of daughters choose their own husband, and she promptly chooses Curran for herself.
