Basil Bartlett
François Mauriac
The scene is the living room of an old house in the southwest of France.
Miss Anderson's dresses and Miss Dillon's dress in Act II designed and made by Carl Bonn. Electrical Fittings kindly supplied by the G.E.C., Trinity Street.
Marcelle de Barthus is a widow with four children who employs a tutor, Blaise Lebel, for her eldest son. It soon becomes apparent that the tutor has a strange power over all in the house, including the Governess who looks after the two youngest. When a young friend of the son comes to stay at the house, he too comes under the spell of Lebel and tragedy isn't far behind.
