Church Street

A Play in One Act, by Lennox Robinson

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Lennox Robinson

  • Setting

The play begins and ends in Mrs. Riordan's drawing-room in the National Bank, Knock, but on occasion, passes to Miss Pettigrew's house, or Honor Bewley's bedroom or to a doctor's waiting-room near Paddington or to Jim Daly's lodging-house in Dublin or to a graveyard. The period of the play varies from one evening to a few months.

  • Synopsis

A young playwright is looking for a subject for his play and his aunt suggests that he write about his own area in Church Street and the potential dramas that could unfold there. He does so, and the play is enacted by people he knows before his eyes, but by the end he has some difficulty in separating fact from fiction.
