• Synopsis

  Featuring an ensemble of prominent historians and performers who explore the story of past right up to the present day, History Play examines the intertwining of official, personal and oral histories, investigating the ethical implications of completing or destroying archives and the motivations for and consequences of writing and rewriting history. Created by the cast and creative team alongside a ‘parliament’ of academic historians, the play turns the idea of history as a nightmare from which we are trying to awake into a living dream of uncertain truths and alternative narratives, suggesting that the best approach to understand our past and present might be to freeze the narrative in an effort to find out what is being left unsaid, and why.
