HOTHOUSE

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Carys D. Coburn

  • Author Notes

Written by Carys D. Coburn with MALAPROP.

  • Synopsis

A play with songs and a ship’s captain pulling the strings, HOTHOUSE is a multigenerational dramatic cabaret about climatic and environmental anxiety. In 1969, Ruth refuses to eat sandwiches with lettuce in them; in the present day, Ali goes on a cruise to say goodbye to the ice; and 100 years in the future, a parent tells their child it gets better (without knowing whether they believe it themselves). HOTHOUSE is about horny songbirds, parents, love, legacy, and wanting to change but not knowing how – it’s a play that makes the argument that climate breakdown is so huge, feeling bad is too small a feeling to do it justice.
