PATRICK GALVIN

1927 - 2011

Born in Cork, as a teenager Galvin spent time in the infamous Daingean reformatory school in Westmeath, an experience he recorded in Song for a Raggy Boy, which was made into a film in 2003. His poetry collections include Heart of Grace, Christ in London, The Wood-burners, Man on the Porch and Folktales for the General. His three volumes of memoir were collected in The Raggy Boy Trilogy (New Island Books, 2002). He also wrote a number of radio plays and was a member of Aosdána.
