HUGO HAMILTON

1953 -

Hugo Hamilton was born in Dublin in 1953 of mixed Irish-German parentage. Well-known as a novelist, his prize-winning memoir 'The Speckled People' (2003) has been translated into over 20 languages. A stage version of the 'The Speckled People', adapted by the author, was premiered in the Gate Theatre as part of the 2011 Dublin Theatre Festival. In 2014, also as part of Dublin Theatre Festival, the Gate Theatre presented the world premiere of Hugo's new play, 'The Mariner'. In 1992, he was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. A member of Aosdána, he lives in Dublin.
