Born in County Antrim, Tim was educated in Cork and Belfast. After graduating in psychology from Queen’s University he co-founded Tinderbox Theatre Company in 1988 of which he was joint Artistic Director until 1996. Since then he has worked extensively as a writer, director and actor in film, television, radio and theatre. Stage plays include the political satires Caught Red Handed (Tinderbox, Belfast) which won the Irish Times Best New Play Award and the Stewart Parker Award (2002) and To Be Sure (Lyric Theatre, Belfast) in 2007 – published together as Comedy of Terrors (Lagan Press, 2009). He wrote and directed The Civilisation Game, the sharp satire on suburban shenanigans in 2012 (Lyric Theatre, Belfast). As well as his own plays, theatre directing includes Dario Fo’s Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay! Darragh Carville’s first play Language Roulette and Gary Mitchell’s debut Independent Voice (Tinderbox) and the Irish Premiere of Dealer’s Choice by Patrick Marber for (Prime Cut Productions). He directed the short film Dance Lexie Dance which won numerous national and international awards and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1997. Tim was awarded Doctor of Literature from Queen’s University, Belfast in 2012.
