George Du Maurier

1834 - 1896

French Novelist & Illustrator. Grandfather of novelist Daphne Du Maurier. He went to university in London and spent much of his adult life there and a split identity as both a Frenchman and an Englishman was born. He studied chemistry, opera singing and painting before finding his feet as a cartoonist and later novelist.
