Elizabeth Kuti
Frances Sheridan
The play is set in the city of Bath around 1765.
'A Trip To Bath' was written in 1765 by Frances Sheridan. The play was never performed and three of its five acts are all that remain. It is unclear whether the play was uncompleted at Sheridan's death or the last two acts were subsequently lost. Elizabeth Kuti has now completed the final two acts in the manner and style of the original, under the title The Whisperers.
A comedy of manners concerning the tactics employed by a pair of unscrupulous fortune hunters to seduce two rich, but innocent lovers. The Whisperers combines 18th-century wickedness and wit with a very modern attitude to the sexual power of money and the market value of sex.
