    Julia Shea, a country dressmaker, is lamenting the emigration of her suitor, Pats Connor, who left for America ten years previously. Unbeknownst to her, Pats has returned home wealthy and is in a neighbour's house being plied with drink until he is inveigled to marry a daughter of the house. Meanwhile her mother wishes her to marry the dull and tongue tied Edmund Normyle.
